Leadership
In the Associate Reformed Church leadership of the local congregation is served by elders and deacons. The body of elders, which includes the pastor, is called the session. The session is charged with the spiritual oversight and governing of the congregation. When the session meets to conduct business, the pastor serves as a moderator; a clerk of session is appointed by members of the session. Records of finances and administrative actions are kept and maintained with periodic oversight by the presbytery.
The body of deacons is called diaconate. Their primary concern is with the material needs of the church and its members. While each group has specific duties and responsibilities, they work hand in hand to administer the work of the Lord in an orderly and efficient manner guided by Biblical principles. Both elders and deacons are elected by members of the congregation and serve for a specified period of time. At Faith Church that term is for six years.
